OA Student at GROW NY Competition!!
This past week, Eleanor Hudson competed as one of 8 NYS finalists in the GROW-NY Competition through Cornell, FFA, and NY Agriculture in the Classroom. Ellie had to apply for the competition, make it to the finals, then write her pitch and present it in front of a panel of judges and other agronomists. She was the only middle school finalist, and the only one of the 8 from Genesee County. She gave her pitch on expanding rabbit production and purchasing a dedicated building for the pregnant does and does having just had kits. The judges noted that this project was unique because it allowed students in any setting to learn about raising animals and growing their own food. Eleanor intends to educate others on different meat sources and sustainable food production. In Addition to raising rabbits, she also also raising a steer to demonstrate the differences between livestock types and project timelines. Ellie made OA FFA and Oakfield as a community very proud with her representation of our school, program and county!
